How many times have we seen a 4th liner muster good production, then get promoted to top 6 duties, only to fall back into oblivion shortly thereafter.

It's one thing to be able to look good against the Trevor Lewis' of this world 10 minutes a night, another to do so in front of Anze Kopitar for 15-18.

Mangiapane's value comes from him being able to be a real 4th line asset, and form 1/3 of perhaps the best 4th line combo of the league with Ryan and whoever else. Leave him the frank there.

I agree with keeping him out of the top 6 for now, but he’s better suited on the 3rd than Lucic. I’m not sure who else would be a better fit between Jankowski and probably Bennett. Dube? I mean, he looked ok during his time with the big club but Mangiapane looked better, to me.

Don't disagree but Dube is a couple years younger. I think Dube's going to be a stud...IMO, Janko's going to lose his job to him pretty soon.

Things not looking good on the Tkachuk front according to TSN, apparently his agent (Meehan) gave some terms back in franking June. If I recall isn't Meehan the same agent that represented Iginla when he held out for a good chunk of the season back in the day?

Listened to it & he didnt say anything that I sensed would be bad. They started in June & probably gave Tre some whacked number & now they are negotiating. Doesnt matter what they tell the team what he should get, its the team that pays him, no one else. Thing is with these RFA's, they really have zero leverage. No one is going to offer sheet him to where they have to give up 4 1st rounders or even 2 1st's a 2nd & a 3rd for that matter. There just arent that many teams that have the cap space & willingness to do that. So it'll come down to, does he want to sit out? I dont recall the last player that sat out & then came out & had a good year. Dont get me wrong, I want him to sign & put an end to these holdouts but if he doesnt play he doesnt play come October, means we have lots of cap space I guess.

Todd’s love for Mang is just that. He’s watched him for years in junior and has lots to judge him on. We have to remember how long it took him before he scored his first goal, keep him in the bottom 6 let him grow some more.

Meehan's smart...probably a big number in june but he's really just waiting for the Leafs to blow their brains out on Marner. Then $8.5+ will sound like a bargain.

Agreed with leaving him on the 4th, maybe get him a bit of PP or PK time this year. No issue with a specialist here or there that can also profit from 4th line minutes.

If Marner's agent learned anything last summer, Dubas will blink first. The Leafs will honestly rue the day they signed Tavares (and Matthews) to those fat deals. Hell, Dubas didn't even get free agent years. Literally 2 of the worst RFA negotiations will, quite literally, sink the Leafs chances of winning a cup.

I have a little more faith in Tre given his track record with RFAs, though I think it's ambitious to think that he's going to come in under $8M... Betting the $8.5 number won't be far off the mark when all is said and done (think it will be 8.25)

Everything that comes out of either side is completely meaningless and just posturing until he's signed. Saying they gave the Flames fair terms in June is meaningless. Tkachuk's agent would be awful if he wasn't asking for 11+ in June, and Meehan isn't a bad agent. Fair terms are completely based on perspective. From Meehan's perspective, the Flames would be getting a bargain only paying Tkachuk 90 million over the next 8 years.

Honestly, I hope none of the GMs cave in any of the RFA negotiations. It's going to be a disaster for the league if every potential superstar is given a massive contract after their third season.
